The Hioki Pencil Hitester has a 21 year history since the first model was sold in 1983. Until then, traditional multimeter designs consisted of a meter body with separate red (positive) and black (negative) test leads. That design required one to find a place to set the meter down, or to hold it in one's hand or hang it around one's neck. The Pencil HiTester, for the first time, incorporated the positive test lead into a compact meter body. The market recognized it as a very easy to use digital multimeter, and made it an historic best-seller.
